Understanding the role of a nanny

At Bilingual Nannies, we are always looking for educated, professional and experienced English-speaking nannies and educators. We are always in contact with families looking for qualified and caring individuals to care for their children. If you're looking for a new challenge or a work opportunity outside of the typical classroom, 

and you meet the requirements below, please get in contact with us as we would love to hear from you. 

Our high standard require for candidates to: 

Have three professional and contactable references

Native or fluent level in English

Possess a minimum of three years of full-time, long-term experience as a nanny, child carer or teacher

Requirements of being a nanny

Clean criminal record from France and/or your native country

Have a valid passport or willingness to acquire one (if the role requires travelling)

Have EU citizenship or a valid work permit/visa to work in France

More personal experience than typical classroom teaching

Salary - A high monthly salary, in some cases, more than classroom teaching positions 

Transport - 50% of your monthly Navigo reimbursed within your salary

Holidays - 5 weeks (sometimes more!) paid leave per year 

Travelling - Having the potential opportunity to travel alongside your family whilst working

Opportunity to learn and be immersed in French culture, language and lifestyle

Flexible scheduling - You can work part-time and study at the same time.

It's essential for you to understand the role and responsibilities of your new nanny, as well as yourself as an employer.  A nanny's role will vary depending on what your family needs.

Typical responsibilities of a nanny can include:

Developmental Progression

  • Organising creative activities or educational games (including drawing, crafts and physical sport)​

  • Assisting with homework 

  • Reading and collecting books from the library for the children 

  • Working alongside parents in the overall development of the child/ren

Social Aspect

  • Accompanying children to the park, for walks, as well as to extra-curricular activities 

  • Arranging playdates 

  • Teaching children important social behaviours, such as sharing, respect for others and helping with household chores

Hygiene / Health

  • Preparing children’s meals and feeding the children (or bottle feeding for babies)

  • Organising the children’s laundry 

  • Arranging and tidying of children’s bedrooms and play spaces 

  • Administering basic medication, under the parent’s instruction​

  • Taking care of children when they are sick ​​

  • Changing diapers

Safety & Wellbeing

  • Dropping off and/or picking up children from school

  • Maintaining a safe, happy and engaging environment for the children

  • Changing diapers and bathing

Language 

  • Developing the children’s ability to understand and speak English through different playful methods and pedagogies

Extra responsibilities (depending on the family's needs)

  • Travelling with the family during vacations or trips away

  • Sometimes you may ask the nanny to do light housekeeping tasks, such as small grocery shopping, loading and unloading the dishwasher, keeping spaces in the household tidy and running family errands.
